she doesn’t look up when he speaks to her, the words sounding almost like murmurs in her ears. golden eyes watch him move the chip, and her mind (that seems to be full of dust and incoherent mutterings between visitors) begins to whir. she was always careful to calculate her moves, calculate steps and chance.

even in her cold stasis she would admit her skills had dulled, but she knew exactly what this game was about, and to mimic much of her life, she planned to win. ( she knew he did too, but she knew him, and she too had grown.)

The blast sends them both backwards several yards. They both land a few feet from each other, two pairs of golden eyes stare at each other before turning back to watch the plants go up in smoke.
” That was pretty good, Zu-zu. “ she breathes, standing and brushing herself off. She wants to recreate the move he’s just performed, but she knows if she tries she’ll do it perfectly. So she walks back to her room instead. ( she wants him to be happy today, happy because he hasn’t smiled since mother left. )

[ Sadness, pity even. Coming to visit her was all things but happy. He knew he was the one who chained her up and locked her in her own mental prison; that he was the one damaging her more. It was the burden he must take on to protect those he loved from her tyrannical wrath. But no matter how much he wished against, she was family.
She was his sister.
There still existed one part of him that wished to show any kind of bond he could have for her. And so he did.
And one faithful day, before she was too awake to realize what he was doing, he simply dropped fire lillies; ruby red flowers that he recalled was her favorite, right to her bedside. Being the only one allowed to be close enough to actually touch her, tucking her in the comfiest blanket he could find and sighed.
